Lily Grace Wins Gold in Canada
Testament to the quality of Narkoojee wines, our Lily
Grace Chardonnay was one of the few wines awarded a Gold
Medal at the Rocky Mountain Vino awards in Canada during
April 2007.
The Rocky Mountains Food and Wine Festival is one of THE
events on the Food and Wine Calendar in Canada. It is a
huge festival run in three major locations of Calgary,
Edmonton and Red Deer in Alberta, Canada.
The Vino Awards is the annual wine competition open to
all participating wineries in the Rocky Mountain Wine &
Food Festival. Over two hundred entrants, from worldwide
wineries, competed in the 2007 Vino Awards.
A panel of highly qualified judges from Western Canada
conducted the judging of the Vino Awards. The judges
assigned scores, using the 100-point system, determining
which wines qualified for a gold, silver or bronze
medal.
Narkoojee wines scooped the pool with silver medals for
the 2005 Myrtle Point Shiraz, 2005 Reserve Chardonnay
and 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon, along with the gold for the
2005 Lily Grace Chardonnay.
All the medal winning wines will be available during the
Festival in October, which is good news for anyone
looking for a glass of quality Narkoojee wine in Canada.

Narkoojee Wins Best Red Wine in Show
On Thursday 1st March 2007, Narkoojee won 2 trophies and
3 bronze medals in the Gippsland Wine Show.
Nearly 200 wines from 46 wineries were entered in the
show organised by
Wines of Gippsland Inc and sponsored by the region’s
local government and
business community. The show is open exclusively to
wines made from fruit
grown in Gippsland and the Cardinia Region.
Australia’s most renowned wine writer James Halliday led
a team of expert wine judges including Dr Tony Jordan,
founder and Chief Executive of Domaine Chandon Australia
and Ben Edwards,
president of the Victorian chapter of the Australian
Sommeliers Association.
Narkoojee was awarded the MKA Legal Group trophy for
Best Red in show for the 2005 Pinot Noir.
We also took top honours for Best Pinot Noir with the
2005 vintage.
The 2005 Lily Grace Chardonnay, 2004 Cabernet and 2004
Athelstan Merlot received bronze medals.
There were 50 entries in the cabernet section with only
3 medals awarded which were all bronzes.
It was a very pleasing result and although we have now
sold out of the 2005 Pinot Noir, the 2006 is looking
even more encouraging.
Stay tuned for its release in the coming months.

EVENTS
Matteos DinnersOn the 14th and 15th September,
the annual winemakers’ dinners were held at Matteo’s
restaurant in Fitzroy.
The evenings were most enjoyable, with chef Brendan
McQueen delighting us yet again with a range of the most
delicious and interesting courses. The highlight of the
evenings was the launch of our two new reds. Firstly,
the release of our own estate grown 2006 Isaac Shiraz,
in celebration of the birth of Harry and Val's first
grandson; Isaac. This was followed by the exclusive 2004
“Four Generations Merlot”, commemorating a century of
four generations of the Friend family at Narkoojee.
Both of these wines are in strictly limited supply. You
won’t see the Four Generations merlot again, so check
out our on-line ordering page and get in before its all
gone.
Enoteca Luncheons
The fifth Narkoojee Church St Enoteca Spring
Luncheons and the launch of the 2006 Lily Grace
Chardonnay and the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon is the next
function to put on your social calendar. The luncheons
will be held at one of Melbourne’s finest restaurants,
Church Street Enoteca. Please join us at one of these
three functions:
- Saturday 13 October 2007
- Saturday 20 October 2007
- Saturday 27 October 2007
The Spring Luncheons will take place in the intimate
gallery room at Church Street Enoteca, 527 Church St
Richmond.
‘The chic and often older clientele at Church Street
Enoteca is here for chef Ron O’Bryan’s smart, and not
purely Italian, cookery that’s supported by a crew of
knowledgeable waiters.’ The Age Good Food Guide 2008
If you wish to attend one of these luncheons please

Number 8
On Saturday 24th February, Number 8,
Crown’s flagship modern-Australian restaurant, hosted
the first Narkoojee Summer Luncheon.
It was a huge success, with all seats booked out 2 days
after the invitations were sent. As a result, we
repeated the function twice in April.
All three luncheons were fabulous with delightful food
and wine accompanied by informative and as always,
entertaining presentations from both Harry and Axel
Friend. Guests enjoyed the most delicious calamari for
entrée, and steak cooked to perfection, as the main
course. Four superb Narkoojee wines were matched to the
menu and the Number 8 staff provided impeccable service.
Keep an eye out for this one next year!

REVIEWS
Narkoojee Myrtle Point Shiraz 2005:
"Made by winemaker Harry Friend at the Narkoojee winery,
north of Traralgon from grapes grown near Bairnsdale,
the Myrtle Point is a gorgeous expression of cool
climate shiraz. Instantly engaging red and black berry
fruit aromas plus hints of pepper and sweet spice; the
promise of the bouquet is fulfilled on the palate which
holds a core of intense sweet fruit balanced by a fine,
dry tannin.
A genuinely interesting individual style from a winery
now rated five stars by James Halliday and a leading
light within the growing Gippsland wine industry. "
Review by Paddy Kendler (Wine Writer – Herald Sun
Newspaper) October 2006, see Wine Outlaw Website:

James Halliday has released his latest wine guide and
